Nondestructive Marine Testing Services

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements. We use ultrasonic thickness gauges to measure the thickness of metal hulls, tanks, masts, and other metal structures to determine wastage due to corrosion or abrasion. We use our own equipment - and we never arrive at job sites with rental equipment. We own multiple instruments, including the Cygnus-1 and Cygnus-3, both designed to work through up to 6mm of coatings (which means it's rarely necessary to remove the coatings to take accurate measurements).

Temperature measurements. We use non-contact infra-red technology to determine temperatures of engines, stuffing boxes, transmissions, electrical connections, batteries, air conditioners,freezers, etc., to verify for proper function.

Moisture meters. Moisture meters are used when needed, to evaluate moisture content in fiberglass or wood structures -- hulls, decks, superstructures, etc.
Bore scope inspection. Allows inspections of interior and hard to reach parts of tanks, spars, void spaces, coffer dams, etc.

Frequency meters, battery load testers, amp meters, polarity indicators, multi-testers: for diagnosis of AC and DC electrical systems.
Dial Indicators, Micrometers: may be used to measure run-out in shafting and trueness of propellers.
Oil Samples. Can be taken upon request and are submitted to an independent laboratory. Results are sent directly to the client. Please notify us in advance so that we can have sample kits on hand. Extra fees apply.
Audible Percussion Testing. A low-tech, high-skill process in which the structural members of fiberglass or wood boats are tapped to determine the condition of the bottom, top-sides, and deck, as deemed necessary.
